So it seems now more than ever Collagen is on every radio station, in every magazine and in every home. But do you know what Collagen actually is? Let's take a look...
Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body, accounting for about 1/4 to 1/3 of the protein composition. In fact collagen is one of the major building blocks of bones, skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It is also found in many other body parts including but not limited to blood vessels, corneas, and teeth.
You might think of it as the glue in your body that holds everything together. In fact, the word comes from the Greek word κόλα which means glue.
As you age your body produces less and lower quality collagen. One of the visible signs of this is your skin, which becomes less firm and supple.
So what does Collagen help with in your body:
It improves your skin and hair
It repairs joints
Helps to repair leaky gut
It Boosts your metabolism and helps with weight loss
Strengthens teeth and nails
Helps the body to detox
Reduces cellulite and stretch marks
Helps recovery after exercise
Builds healthy artery walls
Does Blood Type influence which Collagen works better?
Absolutely! Looking at what Collagen is made from you get an idea of which blood type should take which collagen. For example: Blood Type O is good with ALL meat and fish and can therefore use normal bovine collagen and marine collagen. Blood Type A is better with a Mediterranean style diet, therefore they would be much better taking the marine collagen made from fish. In our clients we have noticed that the type A blood types who take the bovine may also experience joint pain and inflammation. But if they take marine they definitely feel a lot more comfortable. Type B blood type are much better taking Bovine but can also take the marine. Type AB can generally take both forms of collagen.
Which form of collagen is better?
Collagen Powder?
Collagen powder is exactly as it sounds. It is tasteless, white and loose powder that dissolves in any liquid. It usually comes in a packet or a tub and can be added to multiple drinks, smoothies, and food. Powder form of collagen are more versatile as this form can be added to almost anything like coffee, water, and even your morning snacks like omelette.
Pills/Capsules?
